Best in The West 2019, my turbine exploded about 10 seconds after take off. I was way too far and too low to return to the runway. A lot was broken. Nose, both wings, tail section... everything.
The aspire is a fairly a cheap plane, so it would have been easy just to get another one. But I didn't like it that much to buy a new one.
It sat in the garage for two months until the boredom of the winter came. I decided to fix and repaint it in a different scheme. much cooler than the original one.
Starting with the fuselage
I collected all the pieces from the crashing site
Put them together with thin CA
A big section was missing at the bottom
Restored the shape with aluminum tape
Layed down some fiberglass and a strip of carbon for initial shape.
Luckily I had access from the bottom wing's servo tray to lay down some carbon fiber from the underneath of the skin. I then added some light fiberglass from the top.
I removed the entire paint from the body to save weight.
